Teen Anger Management Program
Our Teen Anger Management Program creates a motivating environment that offers adolescents support and guidance in learning to manage the strong energy of anger, which is one of our most natural emotions.
Adolescence is one of the most difficult times in life. Teens are learning to be more independent than when they were ages 5 or 10, where they relied heavily on their parents’ direction, approval, and support. During adolescence, teens are learning about personal responsibility, beginning to think differently than their parents, and identifying their own wants and needs separately from their family unit.
Additionally, the most important aspect of adolescence, from a psychological perspective, is the task of developing a sense of self and personal identity. This is often seen in how teens socialize, how they talk and express themselves, and how they dress.
These changes are huge adjustments for not only teens but also their parents. As the adolescent begins to assert him or herself, the more likely parents will resist or at least question their teen’s intentions and actions. This often leads to frustration, disagreements, power struggles, and high levels of anger. When combining all these aspects of adolescence, it’s easy to see the challenges, the personal instability that may arise, and the possibilities for anger to flare up.
Our Teen Anger Management Program takes into consideration the different challenges angry adolescents face in their daily lives. When working with adolescents, our Teen Anger Management specialist really understands and validates each teen’s personal experience. The Teen Anger Management Program is then designed to fit each adolescent’s needs with a combination of individual and group meetings, where anger management can be explored one on one with a facilitator and with peers to whom they can relate.
Molly Lyda is our teen anger management specialist who has years of experience working with adolescents in individual therapy, group therapy, and residential settings. Through Teen Anger Management, angry adolescents will address the causes of anger and the other influences that lead to outbursts. Positive and negative interactions with others, stress management, communication skills, and self-awareness are also explored. The Teen Anger Management Program helps adolescents express anger productively while enhancing relationships with others. Family challenges with anger management are also addressed if necessary, with scheduled family sessions as needed.
